A rare find, a vintage religious folk
art altar portraying Our Lady of Juquila, aka Nuestra
Senora de Juquila, from Oaxaca, Mexico. Inside the tin
altar is an old print, framed and surrounded by leaded
glass that has foil paper behind it for shimmer and
color. Tin wings flare out from the sides, and foil
flowers are inside the shadow-box altar. There is oxidation
to this charming piece of folk art, as it probably hung
for many years in a place of honor.
The altar measures 5 1/2" tall
x 6" across the wings. It's in excellent condition,
and is missing a hanging ring or some way to hang it.
Unknown exact age and origin, I am estimating the 1940's
