This folk art gourd comes from Olinala, an area long
known for its fine lacquerware. How they learned this
craft iss lost to time, some say it was learned from
Chinese Voygerers who came to Mexico long before the
Spanish arrived. Here is a contntainer made of from
a large gourd, the large one like this are the hardest
to find. This one has beautiful art work and detail
on both the bottom and the top. Colors are bright and
The gourd is in good shape with no damage with only
a very minor and normal bit of wear mostly on the bottom..
On the underside there is a white line, this is not
a crack, but some type of paint rub. It measures 10"
wide by 7 1/2" tall.
