This type of necklace is a traditional piece of jewelry
worn by Guatemalan women. The pendant is made of a large
replica reale coin, Several smaller coins are welded
to the large coin on the pendant with charms (milagros)
attached by chain. The largest coin is worn and the
date is hard to read.
The silver openwork beads and charms on the necklace
are old Guatemalan silver which is a lower grade silver.
as well as old Guatemalan silver beads. Two quezal bird
(National bird of Guatemala) charms are welded to the
top of the coin pendant. The dangle charms are ducks
and a fish, The coin pendant is 2 1/2: wide with the
charm dangles about 2" long. The necklace has drilled
reale and 1/2 reale coins, all dated around 1910 or
1911. The necklace is 14" long from center back
to center front. The necklace is strung with red glass
beads, silver beads, antique coins and the silver milgro
charms. It goes over the head, there is not a closure.
