This type of necklace is a traditional piece of jewelry
worn by Guatemalan women. The pendant is made of a large
real coin, Several smaller coins are welded to the large
coin on the pendant and there are coins mixed wtith
the beads on the necklace. The large coin is dated 1894
and is probably a restike, but an old restrike, There
are ten reals on the necklace, two 1/2 reals and two
1/4 reals. The drilled coins are probably real coins.
All dated arouund 1910. There are crosses and metal
charms on the necklace as well as old Guatemalan silver
beads. The pendant has charm dangles. Two quezal bird
(National bird of Guatemala)charms are welded to the
top of the coin pendant. It is in excellent vintage
condition. This is one of the nicest Chachals that I
have seen and is all original., The coin pendant is
2 1/2: wide with the charm dangles about 2" long.
The necklace is 13 1/2" long from center back to
center front..
