These old trays are carved from one piece of wood, then an enamel finish is applied and the brightly painted flower designs are added. This one is in excellent condition and shows fine workmanship. Beautiful border that is not worn off as seen on so many. The paint colors are bright with almost no wear. Wood is sound with no cracks or splits. It measures 12 1/4" across. and is 1 1/2" deep.

I have handled so many of these bateas that I can recognize the individual artists who painted them, even if I don't know their names. This one was painted by the artist that I call "Dark Flower" because of the dark, almost black petals painted in some of the flowers. This one is a perfect example of "Dark Flowers" work.
